Literature Text

Previously: Daniel brought Simon home from the hospital. Then we skipped forward 5 years ahead in time. This means Simon was 5 years old, and his dad was 39. Simon was curious about where his mother is because he doesn't understand she died giving birth to him. So his dad explained it to him, and the chapter ended with Daniel putting a picture of his wife in the window-sill, and going to bed.

((I'm going to skip some more years throughout the story. Now Simon is 16 in this chapter, and his dad is 50))

It was raining again in Scandinavia when Simon Petrikov was walking out of his high school. He was supposed to be at a meeting with a teacher talking about advancing out of High School early, and attending a college for the intelligent. Sadly, his father was catching an illness. Simon had been researching about what kind of illness he could have, and he was almost 100 percent he had caught the measles, or scientifically named Rubeola. ((Note: I did research on the Measles and it was very common in the area they live in, so my info should be true.))

Simon's father had been coughing, and had a high fever when Simon left for school that day. Simon really hated leaving his dad alone, but his dad insisted he go to school and that his education was more important. That day the school had received a call from a nurse at the hospital. They called Simon down to the office, and turns out his father was rushed to the hospital because a neighbor stopped by and saw him coughing so hard he couldn't breathe. Simon wasn't shocked at all that he was in the hospital, but he quickly left the school without thinking about his opportunity of going to college.

When Simon reached the hospital a nurse took him to the room where his father was lying half asleep on the bed. He had a rash forming all over his skin. The sight of Simon seeing his father in so much pain made him want to cry, but he stayed strong. Simon walked over to the bed.

"Hi Dad.. You don't look so well." Simon told his dad with a worried look in his eyes. His father tried to sit up in the bed but Simon insisted he stay down. His dad started coughing, and he laid back down. The nurses made Simon stand back so he wouldn't catch the virus. "What brings you to the hospital..? Your supposed to be at a meeting with that teacher so you can advance to college."
Simon sighed, and looked at his dad in the eye. "Your more important to me than my education, I can't imagine losing both of my parents.. I'd be lost without my father."  A tear went down Simon's face. His father looked at Simon and he looked sad, and really ill. "Don't cry Simon, If you cry then I'll cry..I don't like seeing you hurt, you have gone through enough already." Simon was about to say something but he let his dad continue. "Now look at me son, I WANT you to go back to school right now and talk to that teacher about college." Simon turned around, and sighed sadly. "Dad.. I can't do that. I don't want to leave you."
"Simon, that's an order. I want you to go school and get the education you need. Don't worry about me, all I want for you is to be happy. Perhaps you will meet a wonderful young woman at your new college."  Daniel never gave up on his son, and eventually Simon gave up on arguing. He went back to the school, and talked to the teacher. The teacher was delighted to have such a smart young mind to welcome to the advanced college, and Simon was pleased with getting asked to attend there. He planned on studying ancient artifacts. After the meeting, Simon drove home and started packing. Every minute he thought of his father, and if he was doing alright. He felt a bit guilty leaving the hospital, and scared something would happen to his father. The nurses told him there was no treatment for the Measles, and all they could do was let him sleep, and keep him in humidified air. They said the would keep Simon updated on anything that happened, and they hadn't called yet so Simon was hoping that was a good sign.

After about an hour or so Simon was finished packing. The college he was attending wasn't very far away, which was a good thing. It was about 2 hours away. Simon didn't want to be too far away from his father in case anything happened. Simon decided he was ready to leave the house, and get to college. He got into his car and started the drive there. When he got there a car was following him from behind. He parked his car, and stepped out. The car that was following him parked right next to his. Simon stood there for a second, and when the person got out of the car, he could see it was a pretty young woman, that looked about his age. All he did was stare for a couple of seconds, and then the woman caught him looking. She smiled at him, and walked up to him. "Hi there, what were you looking at?" This made Simon blush, and he started getting a nervous feeling on the insides. "Uh.. Nothing madame." He said nervously, and she laughed a little bit, and Simon noticed she was lightly blushing. He decided this woman seemed friendly, and he sparked a conversation with her. They both grabbed their belongings and made there way inside the college.

"May I ask for your name?" Simon asked the woman, and she nodded.
"Of course. My name is Betty. May I ask you the same?" She had a really bright smile. Her hair was medium length, and a pretty shade of red.  Simon smiled back at her.

"What a lovely name. My name is Simon Petrikov." he replied. Betty blushed.
"Thank you, I like your name too." Then it was quiet for a moment, until Betty broke the silence. "So what are you studying here?"  Simon looked at her and replied "I'm studying to be a antiquarian, a specialist in the knowledge of ancient artifacts. How about you?"
"I'm here to study to be a nurse." She replied happily. "What interests you in ancient artifacts?" She asked. "Well it's more of a fascination, not a interest." He replied.
I see she replied. "The reason I'm studying to be a doctor is because I love to help people with their problems, and I love children." Simon smiled at the thought of that. He thought to himself, "She's perfect. Maybe my dad is right.. Maybe a woman in my life will help me get through things."
After about 5 minutes of talking they reached the college building, and ironically they both had the same dorm room together. "Well how ironic, looks like we have the same room together." Betty told Simon. Simon smiled. "That's pretty awesome. Is it just us ?" Betty nodded. "Yep, just us." Simon nodded at her, and they both headed up to the dorm room.
Here's chapter 3. I literally was writing 3 hours straight, but I was on Facebook too. Anyways enjoy! This chapter isn't as sad so that's good :D
