How to Test a Hero: Chapter 4

Previously: Finn recieved the key from the Ice Kingdom, used the key and entered a portal leading to a crystal cave. Finn found a glass-like wall, and began feeling the wall. Out of nowhere, a shadow appeared and Finn slowly turned around, ready to attack.

Finn slowly turned around, keeping his guard up. When he looked up, Finn's mouth dropped. The shadow wasn't harmful at all. The shadow turned out be Ice King.

"Ice...King?!" Finn said confused.

The Ice King looked very tired, he had dark circles under his eyes. "Yes, it is I. The Ice King."

"What.. I don't understand. Were you following me this whole time?!" Finn shouted. Ice King sighed.

"The Princess.. She'll never love you." Ice King said eying Finn, avoiding the question. Finn stayed quiet, and his eyes grew watery but he kept the tears held back.

"No matter what you do, you'll always just be that silly friend of hers. If you really want her love, then.." Ice King raised his fist as he was filled with anger, and jealousy. "You'll have to take her !" He shouted maniacally as he pushed Finn into the glass-like wall. Finn went flying through the wall, and into another world. He seemed to be floating. "Must have been another portal.." Finn thought to himself. The world seemed rather empty. Finn rubbed at his head as he looked around in confusion. "Hello..?!" He shouted. At first there was no response, and the silence seemed to be taking over. Then a huge, glowing shadow appeared before Finn's eyes. It was the Cosmic Owl.  The owl studied Finn, and he flew above him. Gravity kept Finn stable, and in place.

"Ah, Finn the Human. I knew you were coming. I could feel your presence." The owl said in a low voice. Finn didn't know how to respond, and he was feeling a bit nervous.

"Y-Your the Cosmic Owl, right?" Finn asked.

"Of course I am. I am the God of Wisdom here in the Land of Ooo, of this universe. This is my domain."

"Great, so.. I've heard you give out wishes." Finn replied. The owl spoke in a rather serious tone.

"Yes, yes I do. But only ONE wish per creature."

"I understand, and I have traveled here for my wish." Finn replied.

"What is it you most desire..?" The owl said looking upon Finn in his eyes. Finn gulped, and took a deep breathe. "This is it.. He thought to himself." The owl patiently waited for an answer. Finn finally spoke, and he confidently poured his heart out to the Cosmic Owl.

"I desire the love of Princess Bubblegum. She's the light of my life, and I can't see myself with anyone else but her. She's very important to me, I'm delighted to just see her smiling. I love her.; But if I want something as valuable as her, I need to earn it on my own. How can I help others if I can't even help myself?"

The owl replied. "So be it. This is your one and only wish from me you will ever be granted." Finn listened very carefully, and he confidently told the owl he would pay any price for the Princess.

The owl lifted up his wings. "As you wish; But the responsiblities your heart is yearning for, are much too heavy for a boy."

The owl raised his wings to the sky, and a golden beam of light shot at Finn.

"Stay true to the path you have chosen.."

The light shot Finn back to the Land of Ooo, and out of the Cosmic Owl's universe. Finn landed head-first on the ground, hitting it hard. He hit the ground so hard he went into a coma. The main reason Finn was in this coma, was so his body could adjust to his new but older, body. He laid on the ground unaware of anything happening at all.

((Author: As of this point, Finn is going through body/mind changes since he is skipping puberty, and becoming mature all of a sudden because of the Cosmic Owl's magic.))

During the time of Finn being in his deep sleep, somehow the Space Time Continuum became messed up. The waving snail set the Lich King out of his amber prison cell once again.

"Yes...Yes.." The Lich chanted as he began to break free.

The Lich escaped, and started heading towards Candy Kingdom to take over Princess Bubblegum's castle. Once he saw Finn laying all alone on the ground, the Lich took his chances at killing Finn. The Lich scooped Finn up in his bony arms, and flew towards the ocean. He knew Finn's biggest fear was the ocean, So why not kill him there? The Lich with all his strength tossed Finn in the ocean. Lich raised his arms, and a violent storm brewed, creating dangerous whirlpools in the water.

The Lich chuckled to himself, as Finn drowned deeper, and deeper. Then out of nowhere, Jake jumped out. Jake had been watching the whole time. "WHAT DO YOU THINK YOUR DOING WITH MY BEST FRIEND!!!??" Jake demanded. The Lich stared at Jake trying to make him feel pity.

"Pity. You should have PITY on Finn. He left you all alone, just to get to his little Princess, and you see! He didn't care about you."

"No.. That's not true!" Jake shouted back as he stretched out huge, and went out into the ocean to grab Finn.

"NO! Get out of there, foolish dog." The Lich raised his arms again, and the ocean became infested with sharks.

"Gulp." Jake said out loud. He dived into the ocean after Finn, dodging as many sharks as he could. The sharks had began to feed on Finn's body, mainly his right arm. Blood was flowing all throughout the water. "Come on, come on.." Jake thought becoming flustered. Jake stretched his arms out longer, and reached for Finn as sharks began biting his arms. "Ow..Ow..Ow.." Jake kept thinking as he pulled Finn up closer to him. When Jake finally had Finn in his arms, he could see Finn was had a severe injury. His right arm was completely eaten away, and his body was extremely bloody. The sharks had demolished his arm to bits within seconds. Jake was breathing heavily when he reached the shore. The Lich had taken off thinking he had killed Finn and Jake. He was wrong, but if Jake couldn't find a way quick; Finn would die from blood loss.

Jake laid Finn down in the sand. "Come on Finn! Wake up, wake up...!" Tears began spilling from his eyes. "This time I'm actually cryin'. I'm not sweating through my eyes this time, man. Please wake up.." Jake laid there on the shore for hours waiting for Finn to awaken. He cleaned up the blood off Finn,  wrapped up the area where Finn's right arm was now missing. Finn never awoke, and Jake was worried about where the Lich could have gone. Had he gone back to his amber cell? Had he gone to his Well of Power? Or maybe he went around terrorizing people? Jake didn't know, but he needed to find out.

"I can't just leave Finn here.." Jake thought to himself. "But I can't take him with me.."

"Oh well.." Jake sniffled, and he kissed Finn's forehead. "Stay right there." He told Finn, even though he knew Finn wouldn't hear him.

Jake left Finn on the shore, as he looked up a dim, green light was glowing from the dark night sky. Jake headed for the light. He followed the light. The light turned out to be the Lich. He was going around killing innocent people. There were ghosts all around. It made Jake feel like he was in a haunted house. Jake hid in a bush, and he wanted to fight, but he knew he might end up dying if he fought the Lich all alone. Jake sat there lost in thought for moments thinking of what Finn would do at a time like this. "Finn.. Finn would be saying a true hero never gives up, and would risk there own live for anyone. Even a stranger." Jake thought. He stood up and walked out in front of the bush.

"HEY LICH!" He shouted. The Lich looked up very confused, and angry.

"Jake? I thought I killed you..." He said in a very deep tone.

"I guess not, kuz I'm still alive!" Jake stuck his tongue out at the Lich, and he punched him in the jaw. The Lich dropped the helpless creature he was beating up on, and the creature ran away in fear. The Lich stared at Jake, and Jake didn't look back into his eyes. The Lich swung his bony, fist at Jake. Jake dodged it, and he wrapped his body around the Lich. He poked him in the eyeballs.

"AH. Owwww.." The Lich screamed in pain.

"That's what you get for messin' with me." Jake said unwrapping himself. He poured water on the Lich's flaming eyes. "I..I can't see..!" The Lich shouted. "It's for your own good!" Jake shouted back, and he picked up the Lich and brought him to Princess Bubblegum.

((Setting: Princess Bubblegum's Castle))

When Jake came up to Pb with the Lich in his hands, Pb shrieked. "What the cabbage! JAKE, Why is the Lich here?!"

"He was takin' over Ooo. He almost killed Finn and I, but I managed to save Finn! I need to destroy the Lich. HOW CAN I DO IT!!?" Jake asked wanting to toss the Lich 10 million miles away.

"We can put him in the Nightosphere." Pb replied. She took out some bug milk, drew a face on the ground, and chanted." "Maloso vobiscum et cum spiritum!"

The portal opened. "Quickly! Throw him in!" The Princess yelled. Jake nodded, and threw Lich into the flames. Princess Bubblegum closed the portal.

"He's gone.." The Princess and Jake said wiping sweat off their faces. They both looked at each other.

"Oh snap! I have to go get Finn.." Jake said rushing towards the Ocean shore.

"Wait! I'll come with you." The Princess jumped on Jake's back, and Jake took off.


When they reached the Ocean, Finn wasn't laying on the ground anymore. He was sitting up, staring at the ocean. Finn was alive, and the body transformation had finished. Finn was a mature, 18 year old man. His body structure was more muscular, than his normal chubby stomach. He was 6 feet tall, and he had grown out of his 13 year old clothing. His shirt had torn off, and so had part of his shorts. When Princess Bubblegum looked at Finn she was very confused.

"T-That's Finn...?" Pb whispered asking Jake, and he nodded.

"Yep. I forgot to tell you.. That's why Finn went to.." Jake stopped speaking, and noticed Finn turning his head towards them.

"J-Jake..?" He muttered.
